The Ocean

Edvard Hagerup Grieg (1843-1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered to be one of the leading Romantic era composers and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire, worldwide. His use of Norwegian folk music in his compositions placed the music of Norway in the international arena, as well as helping develop a national identity, much like that developed by Jean Sibelius in Finland and Antonín Dvořák
in Bohemia.

Ole Karsten Sundlisæter (1976) represents a new generation of Norwegian composers. In his first symphony for orchestra “The Ocean”, we can recognize his fascination for the spontaneity found in Grieg’s music and for the timbre and orchestration of the French and Russian masters. Sundlisæter’s production include large scale works such as oratorios, operas, symphonies, chamber, choral and instrumental music.
